The Mangalorean

I really wanted to try mangalorean cuisine for a long time hence headed forward to this restaurant. The ambience is very simple but neat and tidy. The food is little spicy but I am sure that anyone who tries here will love it.

Starters:-
Chicken ghee roast- was very tasty and spicy
Squid sukka- squid or calamari as you may call it was fried with various spices. It's a must try.
Coorgi pork- this was an okay item
Mushroom pepper fry- mushrooms were very well fried and went well with need dosa
Prawn ghee roast- the taste is similar to chicken ghee roast- but prawn obviously has it's own taste.

Solkadi - was served as a beverage. It is probably an acquired taste which I didn't like much.

Main course:-
Sanna- this is something which is very similar to idli and goes perfectly with any gravy.
Tried Neer dosa with Pork bafat, Mutton curry, Prawn Pulimunchi. It was extremely good. Neer dosa was soft and not heavy on the stomach at all.

Dessert:-
Rice Mani (with Jaggery)- I tried this item for the first time. At first it tasted like sweet pongal, but the taste it unique. Absolutely enjoyed it.

Overall the food was really good.

Galitos

I tried Galitos last week with a bunch of friends and loved the food here. Best part is most of the items are grilled and hence less oily. The marination is wonderful and the chicken items are marinated for 24 hours in the refrigerator which is temperature controlled for the best taste. The vegetarian items are good too. The kitchen is very well maintained and kept very clean. Ambience and service is good. They have their sauces which they sell as well. Of all the sauces I liked lemon and herbs sauce. Peri peri hot sauce is also good. They are known for their flame grilled items.

Items tried:-

Starters:-

Grilled chicken wings, chicken and pineapple sosaties, grilled chicken liver, country salads, cheesy toast, Peri shrooms.

Cheesy Toast
Chicken and Pineapple Sosaties

Country Salad
Grilled Liver with Garlic Bread

The chicken wings were best among the starters. Liver was good too served with garlic bread. Mushrooms were decent. Spices depends on your taste and can be modified.

Main course:-

Galitos platter with 6 sides, grilled chicken sausages, chicken strips and rice, pulled chicken wraps, supremo chicken burger, paneer burger, paneer espetada.
Chicken Strips and rice
Chicken Platter
Chicken Burger
Chicken Sausages
Chicken wrap

The grilled chicken was tasty. I found the paneer to be very sweet though. Didn't like the burger much but the cheese was in abundance.

Desserts and beverages:-

Lemon ice tea, lemonade, malva pudding with vanilla ice cream and chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
Ice tea was sour but tasted well and it is not a pre mixed one. So the flavor was strong.
Both the desserts were excellent.

Lemon Ice Tea
Malva Pudding with Vanilla Ice-cream
Chocolate Brownie with ice-cream
Over all had a wonderful time at Galitos.

Go Italia

I have been going to Go Italia for quite some time and their main cuisine as you can figure out, is an Italian one. But they have recently changed their menu from only Italian to multi cuisine. The ambiance is decent and now they are serving wine too.

Went with a bunch of friends and tried the following items:-

1. Soups:-

Cream of mushroom and classic minostrine. The soups were okay.

2. Salad:-

Chicken and spicy sausage salad with tomato and ice Berg leaves was good.

3. Starters:-

Creamy garlic mushroom with garlic bread tasted really good.
Barbeque chicken wings were decent.
I really liked the antipasti platter non veg and the fish fingers.
4. Main course:-
They have definitely tried to make the Indo-Italian food but the steaks were a disaster. I didn't like the portion not the quantity. I have tried spicey house special herb crush bake fish, tray baked chicken with tomato and olives.
We also tried the lasagna both vegetarian and non vegetarian, though it tasted different but was good.
Ravioli
Tried the exotic vegetables and herb risotto. The risotto was tomato based but was good. Ravioli Al formaggi was also nice.
Risotto
Chicken Lasagna with extra cheese
Fish Steak

5. Dessert:-
Tried- warm chocolate cake, cheesecake and tiramisu. Warm chocolate was good but tiramisu was a complete put down. It doesn't taste like tiramisu at all. Cheese cake was okay.
Warm chocolate cake
Cheese cake
6. Beverage:-
Chocolate Milkshake
They have sula mossaic, red wine, white wine and port wine too. The chocolate milk shake was good. There is a counter for fresh juices too.

Overall, it is good for the budget and they usually have quite a few offers almost everyday.

Poha

Poha is one of my favourite breakfast items and I can have it for end number of days. Poha is very popular in all over the country in various names; viz- Chirer Pulav in Bengal, Avalakki in Karnataka, Pohe in Maharastra, Poha in Gujarat. Though the taste is more or less similar, but each place has its special ingredient to taste different.

Poha is nothing but flattened rice, or parched rice. It is available in any grocery shops or any super markets.

Preparation time:- 5 mins

Cooking time:- 10 mins

Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:-

1. Rice Flakes- 2 cups (thick variation)
2. Onion- 1 medium, finely chopped
3. Peanuts- as desired
4. Mustard Seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
5. Cumin Seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
6. Oil or Ghee 1-2 tablespoon
7. Salt- as desired.
8. Turmeric- 1/4 teaspoon
9. Chilli powder- 1/5 teaspoon
10. Lemon Juice- 1 lemon
11. Sugar- to taste

Variations:-

1. Boiled Potato- 1 medium, cut into small
2. Peas- 3 tablespoon
3. Boiled vegetables- any vegetables can be added to make it healthier. I add carrots, beans, cauliflower sometimes
4. Pomegranate- 1 Tablespoon for garnish
5. Cashew- 7-8 just for taste
6. Coriander leaves - finely chopped for garnishing
7.Bhujia/ Sev - to taste at the end.

Direction:-

1. Take a rice strainer and thoroughly wash poha under tap water
2. Mix Turmeric and chilli powder well to the washed poha
3. In the meantime, chop onions and keep.
4. Take a kadai or a non stick pan, heat the oil.
5. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and let it splatter.
6. Add Cumins seeds and fry for a minute.
7. Add the onions to and fry till golden brown. After the onions are fried, you can add the  vegetables if you are using vegetables and then fry for a minute.
8. add salt and sugar as desired.
9.Add the washed poha and stir it. Remember poha is supposed to be little moist, so sprinkle water if it got to dry.
10. Garnish as desired and serve hot with tea/coffee.

Toddy House

One word to describe this place- outstanding!!
If you are looking for fusion food, alcohol and decent ambiance this is a one stop place for you. I feel like I am at home here.

Tried:-
1. Duck roast

2. Crab roast

3. Chatti pork

4. Chicken Tikka

5. Tandoori pork

6. Peanut masala

All the items are spicy. By spicy I do not mean hot but very flavourful. Very well cooked and the best part is it very juicy and tender unlike other restaurants. I am in love with the food.

Akshay, who works here is a jolly person and we just wanted him to recommend good dishes to try. He has been wonderful in suggesting us with these lovely dishes.

No matte how much I write about the food here, unless you try it you wouldn't know what I mean. The best of the lot is tandoori pork. I have never tasted pork so crispy and tender at the same time.
